Kitchen fitters near me: kitchen fitting in Medway and Maidstone

If you have bought a new kitchen and need someone to fit it, CRF Services Ltd installs supplied kitchens across Medway and out to Maidstone. That covers the base and wall units, worktops, doors, drawer fronts, end panels and plinths, fitted level and square so the doors line up and the drawers run smoothly. The kitchen itself is chosen and bought by you, from a showroom, a trade supplier or a DIY store.

What kitchen fitting covers

Kitchen fitting starts once the room is cleared. The floor and walls are checked for level, and a datum line is marked round the room so every base unit sits at the same height whatever the floor does. Base units go in first, packed and fixed to each other and the wall, then the wall units are hung on rails or brackets into solid fixings. Worktops are cut, jointed and fixed, with cut outs for the sink and hob. Doors, drawer fronts, panels, plinths and cornice go on last and are adjusted until the gaps are even.

  • Marking out and levelling the run of units
  • Fitting base units, tall units and wall units
  • Cutting and jointing worktops, sink and hob cut outs
  • Fitting doors, drawer fronts and end panels
  • Plinths, cornice and filler panels
  • Adjusting hinges and runners for even gaps

Rigid and flat pack kitchens

Kitchens are sold either rigid, with the cabinets already built, or flat packed for building on site. Rigid units are quicker to fit and usually stronger, which is why they are recommended. CRF does not offer furniture assembly as a separate service; if your kitchen arrives flat packed, say so when you enquire so the quote covers the whole fit rather than assembly alone. Either way, the quality of the finished kitchen comes down to how carefully the units are levelled and the worktops jointed.

Gas, electrics and plumbing

A kitchen fitter is not a gas engineer or electrician. Connecting or moving a gas hob or cooker must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and new sockets, circuits or a cooker supply must be installed by a qualified electrician. Where the sink and appliance positions stay roughly the same, reconnecting the waste and water is usually straightforward; moving them further is planned before the units go in. Which parts need a registered trade is set out clearly in the quote.

Flooring and finishing

It is worth deciding early whether the new floor goes down before or after the units. Laying it first, right across the room, makes future changes easier; laying it after saves material. The flooring page explains the options. Open shelves, a dresser or tall larder storage can be added with the shelving and storage fitting service.

What affects kitchen fitter cost

The number of units, rigid or flat pack, the worktop material, how many cut outs and joints are needed, the condition of the walls and floor, and whether the old kitchen needs stripping out all change the price. Solid wood and stone effect worktops take more care than laminate, and stone or quartz worktops are normally templated and fitted by the supplier. Each kitchen is quoted in writing from the plan and a visit.
