Local Tradesman in Strood
Local tradesman in Strood for repairs and bathrooms
Strood sits on the north-west bank of the Medway at its lowest bridging point, facing Rochester across Rochester Bridge, with a chalk river cliff about 100 feet high rising behind the town. It is the closest town to the ME3 base, so it is the easiest place to fit a job in when something has actually gone wrong.
Yellow brick terraces on the hill
Strood expanded rapidly between 1882 and 1886, when terraces climbed the hill and closed the gap to Frindsbury. They were built in local yellow brick with red detailing, so any brick repair or repointing should match the yellow stock and the red bands rather than patching in whatever brick is to hand.
Frindsbury and Manor Farm, the conservation area on Strood's doorstep, can bring extra controls on fronts and boundaries, so a quick planning enquiry is worth making before a wall is rebuilt or a front altered.
Low ground by the river
Much of lower Strood was built on former marsh, and floods were recorded in 1953, 1968 and 1979.
- Patios near the river planned with drainage and falls away from the house
- Thresholds kept clear of finished paving levels
- Kingswear Gardens, Temple Marsh and Canal Road sit on lower ground
- Snagging and fit-out jobs in newer riverside homes such as Medway Gate
Short travel changes what is worth booking
For towns further out, a half hour task rarely justifies the journey. In Strood it does, so a single sticking door, a failed seal or a loose gate can be dealt with on its own. Coming back to fit an ordered part is a short trip rather than a whole morning gone.
Water in neighbouring Chatham is rated hard by a third party, and limescale on bathroom fittings is a common reason for a seal or tap to need attention. Describe the fault precisely and send a close photograph and one of the whole fitting, so it is clear whether an adjustment will do or a part needs agreeing first.

North Street, Frindsbury Hill and the A228
North Street runs up from Rochester Bridge past The Angel Inn, with Strood station close by and the A228, Watling Street and the M2 carrying traffic north and west. Frindsbury Hill rises behind, and the chalk cliff above the town marks the edge of the higher ground.
The wards stretch from Strood North and Frindsbury to Strood West, Strood Rural, and Cuxton, Halling and Riverside, so a Strood enquiry can be a hillside terrace, a home on the old marsh by Canal Road or a newer flat at Medway Gate. Each brings different questions: brick matching on the hill, falls and drainage on the low ground, and access and snagging in the newer blocks.
