Shelving and flat pack assembly
Putting up shelves and building flat pack furniture are exactly the kind of right-sized jobs CRF was set up for. They are small, but they still need doing properly, with the right fixings and a bit of patience.
Shelves that stay on the wall
The biggest difference between a shelf that lasts and one that sags or pulls out is the fixing. Plasterboard, solid brick, old lath and plaster and blockwork all need different fixings, and what the shelf will hold matters too. A row of books weighs far more than most people expect.
Danny checks what the wall is made of and what is behind it before drilling, so fixings go into something that will carry the load and cables or pipes are avoided. Shelves are levelled properly and spaced so they are actually useful for what you want to store.
Flat pack without the frustration
Flat pack furniture is designed to be built at home, but some pieces take hours and a second pair of hands. Wardrobes, chests of drawers, beds and storage units are all common requests. Taller items often need fixing to the wall so they cannot tip, which is especially important in children's rooms.
Pieces are built in the room where they will stay wherever possible, since large wardrobes can be difficult to move once assembled. Packaging can be flattened and left tidy for your recycling.

Make a list and get it done in one go
Small jobs are easiest to book when they are grouped. If you have shelves to put up, a wardrobe to build and a curtain pole that has come loose, list them all in one enquiry. It makes better use of a visit and means everything is finished at once.

Where carpentry takes over
Sometimes a shelving request grows into something bigger, such as built-in alcove units or storage made to fit an awkward space. That becomes carpentry rather than a quick handyman job, and Danny can talk through what is involved if you want something made to measure rather than bought ready made.
To enquire, send a photograph of the wall or the flat pack boxes, what you want stored or built, and any other small jobs on your list. That helps Danny plan the visit properly.
Safety and fixings
Wall fixings are one of the few small jobs where getting it wrong can cause real damage. A shelf pulling out can bring down everything on it, and drilling into a hidden pipe or cable creates a much bigger problem than the shelf ever solved. Danny checks the wall before drilling and chooses fixings that suit both the wall and the load. For flat pack, the anti-tip straps or brackets supplied with tall furniture are always fitted rather than left in the box. If you are not sure what a wall is made of, that is fine. Working it out is part of the job.
