Bathroom suite installation for suites you have supplied
Plenty of people buy their own bathroom suite, either from a showroom sale, online or because they have spent months choosing exactly what they want. What they need then is someone to fit it. Bathroom suite installation on a fit only basis means you supply the bath, toilet, basin, taps and shower, and CRF Services Ltd takes care of removing the old suite, preparing the room and installing the new one properly. It suits homes around Rochester and Medway where the layout is staying broadly the same and the tiles are either staying or being renewed as part of the job.
Checking the delivery before anything comes out
The worst time to discover a cracked basin is after the old one has been removed. When a suite is customer supplied, the boxes should be opened and checked as soon as they arrive, and again before the fitting day. Chips, missing fixing kits, the wrong hand of bath and a basin without a tap hole where one is needed are all far easier to sort with the supplier while the old bathroom is still working.
- Bath, basin and pan inspected for chips and cracks
- Correct bath hand and panel sizes confirmed
- Fixing kits, wastes, cistern fittings and seat present
- Taps match the basin tap holes
- Shower valve and tray or screen match the measured space
- Measurements compared with the room before strip out
Wastes, traps and isolation valves
The parts that stop a bathroom leaking are mostly small and cheap, which is why they get overlooked. Each basin and bath needs the right waste and trap, connected with the correct fall so it drains without gurgling. Every tap and the toilet cistern should have an isolation valve, so that a dripping fitting can be shut off on its own without turning off the water to the whole house.
Where a suite comes with a click clack or pop up waste, it is checked before it goes on, because a poor quality waste is one of the most common reasons a new basin drains slowly. If anything in the box is not fit for purpose, you are told before it is fitted, not after.
How the fitting is done
The old suite is isolated, disconnected and removed, and the walls and floor are checked behind it. A bath is levelled and supported on its feet or a frame so it does not flex when filled, then sealed once it has been filled with water so the seal does not tear later. A toilet is fixed to the floor and connected to the soil pipe with the right connector, and the cistern is tested for leaks and refill. The basin is fixed to a wall that can carry it, with extra support on a stud wall.
Toilets on their own are covered by toilet replacement, which explains close coupled, back to wall and wall hung pans in more detail.
When fit only is not the right choice
If the layout is moving, the floor is soft, the tiles are coming off or there is a hidden leak, the job is bigger than swapping the suite. In that case a full bathroom renovation is quoted instead, so that the boarding, tanking and tiling are dealt with properly. It is better to know that at quotation stage than halfway through the job.
Ventilation, electrics and gas
A new suite is often the moment to deal with a fan that has never worked well. The fitting side of that is explained on the bathroom extractor fans page. Electrical work, including new fans, shavers points and lighting, is carried out by a qualified electrician, and any change to a boiler or gas supply goes to a registered gas engineer.
Getting a fit only quote
The cost depends on how many items are being fitted, whether pipe positions need moving, how the old suite comes out, the condition of the walls and floor behind it, and whether tiling is part of the job. Send photos of the room, the product list or links to what you have bought, and your postcode through the contact page.
