Carpenter in Medway, based in Rochester
If you are looking for a carpenter in Rochester, Kent, or anywhere across the Medway towns, CRF Services Ltd is on your doorstep. Danny works from Rochester ME3 and takes on the second fix carpentry that homes here need most: doors, floors, skirting, boxing in, loft access and fitted storage, all carried out and finished by the same person.
Carpentry in Historic Rochester and Star Hill
Around Rochester Castle and Cathedral, the Historic Rochester and Star Hill conservation areas hold Georgian and Victorian buildings whose doors, architrave and window boards are part of their character. Article 4 directions cover Historic Rochester, Watts Avenue and Star Hill to Sun Pier, so changes to external doors and windows there can need consent from Medway Council. That suits like-for-like work: repairing sound timber rather than replacing it, matching mouldings and easing old doors instead of swapping them for modern ones.
Over the bridge in Strood, newer riverside housing and Medway Gate, around 400 homes built in a former chalk pit, bring different jobs: doors catching after new flooring, loft hatches too small for storage and thin skirting that has split. Being local means smaller jobs like these can be fitted in without a long drive either side.
Chatham and Gillingham homes
In Chatham, the streets of Victorian terraces between the High Street and Luton village were built for dockyard workers. Houses like these tend to be narrow, which makes space saving joinery useful: doors rehung where they clash with furniture, shelving in the alcoves of the front room and cupboards under the stairs. Across Medway, 37.7% of homes are terraced, the largest share of any type.
Medway is run by Medway Council, independently of Kent County Council, and across Medway 20.2% of homes are privately rented. Between tenancies the woodwork is often the first thing to need attention: tired hollow doors, split skirting and worn thresholds. Gillingham North and South, Luton, Watling and Gillingham Park also carry Article 4 directions, so external doors there are worth checking before they are ordered.
What a Medway carpenter is booked for
Each job has its own page with more detail, starting with the main carpentry service. New floors are covered on the flooring page.
- Internal doors hung, trimmed and eased
- Plank flooring laid with neat thresholds
- Skirting and architrave replaced room by room
- Pipes and meters boxed in
- Alcove shelving and cupboards
- Loft hatches and loft ladders
Why one local carpenter helps
With one person doing the work, the carpentry is planned in the order that gives the best finish. Floors go down before doors are trimmed, doors are hung before architrave is fitted, and skirting goes on last so it sits neatly on the new floor. When the same person is responsible from start to finish, there is no argument about whose job it was to leave a gap or trim a door.
CRF is a one man business, so carpentry is sized accordingly. Staircases, extensions and structural timber work are not taken on, and you will be told if a job needs a bigger firm.
