Carpenter Gravesend: woodwork for period and modern houses
Gravesend grew south and east from its riverside landing, and much of it was built in two waves: King's Farm and other estates in the 1920s, then the estates that followed the Second World War. Homes from both eras now have original doors, stairs and built in cupboards reaching renewal age. CRF Services Ltd travels west from Rochester for fitted carpentry in the town, with one tradesman measuring, cutting and fitting everything himself.
1920s and post-war joinery
Houses on King's Farm and the post-war estates were fitted with doors, staircases and built in cupboards of their time. Some of that is solid and worth keeping, and some has been patched for decades. Carpentry here is a mix of the two: a sound door frame refixed and a tired hollow door swapped for a solid one, an under stairs cupboard rebuilt as useful storage, or a worn stair rail renewed.
Across Gravesham, 30.0% of homes are terraced and 20.3% are flats, so rooms and hallways are often compact. Storage built into an alcove or under the stairs usually earns more space than freestanding furniture.
- Hollow internal doors replaced with solid ones
- Built in cupboards repaired or rebuilt
- Under stairs storage built in
- Stair rails and balusters secured
- Loft ladders and hatches in family homes
- Internal doors trimmed after new floors
Flats and fire doors
With a fifth of homes across Gravesham being flats, internal doors onto shared hallways may need to be fire doors. The fire door fitting page explains what is involved in general terms, and a new front door hung in an existing opening is covered on front door fitting.
Rented homes between tenancies
Around 19.1% of homes across Gravesham are privately rented. Between tenancies, landlords often need doors rehung, a damaged window board renewed or boxing replaced before the next move-in date. Say when the property is empty so the work can be planned around it.
Planning a Gravesend visit
Gravesend is in the regular area, about half an hour from Rochester, so it suits a planned day or half day rather than a quick call out. If your list mixes carpentry with small repairs, the Gravesend handyman page explains how that works, and the carpentry page lists every woodwork job taken on.
Send photos and rough measurements through the contact page. Hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm. You can also email crfservicesltd@gmail.com or call 07470 053613.
