Tonbridge, Trench Wood and Cage Green
Handyman in Tonbridge for full day job lists
Tonbridge is the furthest point south that CRF Services Ltd travels from Rochester. That shapes how handyman work there is booked: rather than dashing in for one shelf, Danny comes for a planned half or full day and works through a written list, so the travel is a small part of a productive visit.
A riverside town that floods
Tonbridge sits on the River Medway, north of Royal Tunbridge Wells, and parts of the town are at risk of flooding. The 1968 floods led to the Leigh Barrier, a 320 m defence was built along Avebury Avenue in 2015, and significant flooding still came back in December 2019. In lower lying streets that makes small resilience jobs worth adding to a list: renewing sealant along doors and thresholds, swapping damaged skirting and fixing shelves and units a little higher off the floor. Moving sockets up the wall is electrical work and goes to an electrician.
Housing in the town varies. The Victorian railway terraces around Douglas Road and Barden Park have narrow rear gardens, so gates, fence panels and anything carried through the house need planning. Trench Wood and Cage Green are post-war estates with later walls and doors. Across Tonbridge and Malling, 70.0% of homes are owner-occupied, and each type of wall needs its own fixings, which is the main reason blinds, poles and shelves come away in the first place.
A typical Tonbridge job list
Blinds and poles are one of the most common requests here; how they are fixed into different walls and lintels is on the blind and curtain fitting page.
- Blinds and curtain poles through the house
- TV brackets and cable tidying
- Doors eased, rehung or fitted with new handles
- Shelves and secured tall furniture
- Sealant renewed in the kitchen
- Fence panels and gate catches
How the day is planned
The more detail on the list, the better the day goes. Photos of each item, the sizes of any blinds or poles you have bought and a note of which rooms are involved let the right fixings, bits and tools come in the van. Jobs are then worked through in a sensible order, starting with anything that makes dust and finishing with the tidy fitting work, so there is one clean up at the end rather than several.
If the list turns out to be longer than a day, it is better to know in advance. Danny will say so when quoting and suggest which items to do first, or whether a second day makes sense. Anything that needs another trade, such as new electrical circuits, is flagged rather than squeezed in.
